Brozolo

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 471 · Postal code: 10020

Brozolo has no single centre: hills almost everywhere, at the edge of the Monferrato, the houses split among dozens of hamlets, the largest Grisoglio. The name probably comes from Broxulus, small wood or scrubland; other sources trace it to the Germanic Brossa. Its arms repeat the emblems of the Radicati counts: the crowned eagle and the uprooted chestnut, under the motto Perseveranter.

In 1927 Fascist policy merged Brusasco, Cavagnolo, Marcorengo and Brozolo into one comune; Brozolo broke away in 1948, Cavagnolo followed in 1957, Marcorengo stayed a hamlet of Brusasco. The town hall stands at Grisoglio: a three-storey palazzo banded in brick and plaster, a pediment over the central bay, two openwork iron balconies.
