On 8 September Mombaldone, a municipality of 221 inhabitants in the province of Asti, celebrates its patroness the Madonna del Tovetto.
Mombaldone lay in the march of Savona, and in 1209 Ottone Del Carretto was invested with it; in the fourteenth century the fief went to Enrico IV Del Carretto, of the Finale Ligure branch, whose descendants acknowledged themselves vassals of the Savoys. The arms carry both halves of that story: party per pale, Savoy's silver cross on red beside the Del Carretto's five red bands on gold, under the chief of the Empire.
In the foreground of the shield stands the Mons Baldonis, the hill on which lay the eight mansi of the abbey of San Quintino di Spigno. The village still keeps the wall that rings it whole, pierced by one pointed-arch gate, and inside it the ricetto and the castle, made a palace in the eighteenth century.
