Feast of Saint Radegund
📅 Every year, on 11 August
On 11 August Roatto, a municipality of 374 inhabitants in the province of Asti, celebrates its patroness Saint Radegund (santa Radegonda).
Roatto, Roat in Piedmontese, lies on the Astesana hills and scatters into eleven hamlets, from Bricco Rossi and Bricco Boè to Valle Reale and Briassa. Its arms repeat three towers and three lilies in blue on gold, halved by the edge above and below.
The parish dates from 1661, when Roatto and Maretto, until then sharing one priest, separated: sixteen parish priests have followed in three hundred and fifty years. The church was rebuilt in the late nineteenth century by the engineer Camillo Riccio, who gave most of the high altar's marble, and consecrated in 1891. The bell tower survives from the older building, older than the church it serves.
