Feast of Saint Martin
📅 Every year, on 11 November
On 11 November San Martino Alfieri celebrates the patron after whom the town is named; the municipal territory is also home to the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista.
The village runs along a ridge between the Tanaro and the Borbore, in two halves that face each other: on one side the Alfieri castle, on the other the older core, a ricetto, parted by a saddle the road crosses. In 1863 it was named San Martino al Tanaro, and at the end of the century after the Alfieri.
The neoclassical parish church of San Carlo is by Ernesto Melano, who also reordered the village; the castle park was remade in English taste by the German landscape architect Xavier Kurten. Francesca Armosino, Garibaldi's third wife, was born in Saracchi, and in 1880 he stayed in the house still standing.
