Valfenera

Province: Asti · Region: Piedmont · Population: 2,519 · Postal code: 14017

The name comes from Vallis finaria: valley of the border, or, in medieval Latin, valley of hay. The village is of Roman origin and sits on the western edge of the Astigiano plateau.

In the middle ages they called it the citadel of the seven towers, for the walls that ringed it. Almost nothing of that is left: piazza Corte was part of the castle, and of the castle only the bell tower and a few stretches of wall remain.
