Feast of Santa Maria
📅 Every year, on 15 August
On 15 August Netro, a municipality of 1,015 inhabitants in the province of Biella, celebrates its patroness Santa Maria.
The name is said to come from the Celtic Neostro, the last place of defence. The Romanesque pieve of Santa Maria Assunta stood at the heart of the old village: it grew from one nave to three, and frescoes of 1425 survive in the apse. Parish church until 1621, it stayed below when the village moved uphill, and the graveyard grew around it.
Iron is still worked here: locks and latches are beaten by hand in the old forges. The works that Ernesto and Colombo Rubino opened around nineteen hundred made farm tools, turned to military supply in the Great War and now hold the Ecomuseo del Ferro.
