Ronco Biellese

Province: Biella · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,514 · Postal code: 13845

For centuries Ronco made bielline, the terracotta crockery that reached much of northern Italy and the Ticino; an ecomuseum keeps many of the original pieces. At the end of the eighteenth century, in the wake of the revolution, Ronco declared itself an autonomous commune. In August 1944, after a clash between partisans and Nazi-Fascist troops, the reprisal burned many houses and the village barber was shot in the square, mistaken for a partisan.

The parish church of San Michele Arcangelo, built in 1600, has a single nave, a pulpit by Bartolomeo Termine and a Way of the Cross of 1750. Its stone bell tower carries two clock faces and a belfry plastered yellow.
