Vigliano Biellese

Province: Biella · Region: Piedmont · Population: 8,180 · Postal code: 13856

Vigliano has always been a place of passage between Biella and Cossato, and it owes much of its look to the nineteen-thirties: after Mussolini's visit of 18 May 1939 several public buildings were inaugurated, among them the town hospital, the station on the Biella-Novara line, the Industrial Union and the technical institute.

From that season the Torre Littoria also remains, designed in 1938 by the engineer Federico Maggia beside the Casa del Fascio. And a wall remains: that of the church of Santa Maria Assunta, Romanesque, of the eleventh and twelfth centuries, where on 31 August 1944 the Nazi-Fascists shot four civilians and five partisans taken from the prison of Biella.
