Sagliano Micca

Province: Biella · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,654 · Postal code: 13816

The village was simply Sagliano until 1864, when it added the name of Pietro Micca, born here, who in 1706 helped save Turin from the French siege. His birthplace keeps the furniture of the time and a visitors' book signed by Garibaldi.

The territory lies on both banks of the Cervo and includes an administrative island cut off from the rest, high up the valley, with the Lago della Vecchia and Monte Cresto. In 1929 Sagliano was absorbed into Andorno, which then took the name Andorno Micca; independence came back at the end of the fascist years. Above the roofs stands the stone bell tower, with two clock faces.
