Saints Peter and Paul, patrons of the land of Monte Tamone
📅 Every year, on 29 June
Bernezzo celebrates Saints Peter and Paul on 29 June, in the church dedicated to them.
In 1198 the people of Caraglio, fed up with their petty lord, rose in revolt, and the neighbouring communities — Bernezzo among them — lent a hand: the despot was killed, his troops routed, and out of that revolt the city of Cuneo was born. The first document in which the name of Bernezzo appears is of 4 March 1223, a peace treaty between the marquis of Saluzzo and the count of Savoy.
A document of 1417 records that communities linked to the medieval heretical movements, mostly Waldensian, had settled in the village: twenty-two people from Bernezzo were tried and burned at the stake in Cuneo.
