Lagnasco

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,405 · Postal code: 12030

The name comes from the Latin lignascum, the place covered by the woods that filled this plain; the town's arms keep only a gold L, between silver and blue. The Tapparelli probably owe their surname to the tappa, the toll paid to be ferried across the rivers.

Their quarrels with the Falletti ended before Amedeo VI of Savoy, who made peace and gave the family its motto: D'acord. In 1349 the Tapparelli moved into a tower called the torrazza, pulled down in 1581, and enlarged the house into the three castles of Levante, Mezzo and Ponente. The last heir left his restoration unfinished and the house split into flats.
