Feast of Saint Michael
📅 Every year, on 29 September
On 29 September Neive celebrates Saint Michael; the village, among the wine towns of the Langhe hills, also preserves the Castello di Neive.
The name seems to come from the gens Naevia, the Roman family that owned this land: around 100 BC there was already a Roman settlement of some weight here, crossed by the via Aemilia Scauri, which carries the name of the consul who had it built.
At Borgonuovo the Benedictines built the monastery of Santa Maria del Piano in the tenth century: it fell into ruin from the seventeenth century on, and what is left is the Romanesque bell tower and the sacristy, turned into a chapel. At the end of the fourteenth century the duke of Orléans, lord of Asti, put Neive among the towns that were to defend the county, and the village was walled all round.
