Mango

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,334 · Postal code: 12056

Mango is thought to have existed in Roman times as Mangiana Colonia, a name recorded in Trajan's alimentary table: a military post supplying food to veteran troops, and it seems the discharged soldiers founded the colony here. A salt road later passed through.

The village grew out of the ruin of three castles, Frave, Vene and Vaglio, razed by the men of Asti after the year one thousand; the coat of arms recalls them with three towers on three hills, and sets the letters of the name on silver. Below Frave, which old papers call Fravega, Fabreis or Fabricas, ran the Magistra Langarum, the road from Alba to the coast.
