Treiso

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 820 · Postal code: 12050

Treiso takes its name from the Latin Tres, the name the Romans gave a settlement three kilometres from Alba. Nearby, the place called Pertinace keeps the name of the Roman emperor Publio Elvio Pertinace, who lived there. Treiso became a comune late: in 1957, breaking away from Barbaresco, of which it had been a hamlet, on a bill by the Alba deputy Teodoro Bubbio.

The village runs along a ridge, the parish bell tower rising over the roofs and the vine rows climbing to the last houses. Beppe Fenoglio set Una questione privata here and in Alba. Since 2010 the name Treiso has also belonged to a main-belt asteroid, between Mars and Jupiter.
