Coazzolo

Province: Asti · Region: Piedmont · Population: 316 · Postal code: 14054

In Piedmontese the village is Coasseul, more precisely Coasseul d'Ast, a second word to distinguish it from Coasseul d'Ivrèja, in Italian Quassolo, and Coasseul ëd Turin, Coassolo Torinese. The site was inhabited in Roman times as Coatolium; at the end of the thirteenth century, while it still belonged to the diocese of Alba, the men of Asti took it and enfeoffed the Cacherano. At the start of the twentieth century it was a hamlet of Castagnole delle Lanze.

The arms are quarterly: a crowned black eagle on red, two barry quarters of silver and black and, in the last, a purple bunch of grapes on a green branch against gold; below, the motto Audaces vincunt. The grapes return in the landscape: the church of the Beata Vergine stands among the vines, painted by David Tremlett.
