Pezzolo Valle Uzzone

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 354 · Postal code: 12070

Pezzolo Valle Uzzone was created in 1928 by merging Gorrino and Torre Uzzone, and took its name from a third village: Pezzolo, on the valley floor across the stream, cut in two by the municipal boundary. Its people had complained to the Intendente generale in the mid-nineteenth century, but nothing came of it.

Gorrino appears as Gorina in a bull of Pope Benedict VIII of 1014; of its castle Goffredo Casalis noted in 1841 that it now served as the priest's house. In the sanctuary of Todocco a Roman marble slab is walled in, with the she-wolf suckling the twins and the name L. MARIUS; of the old parish church of Torre Uzzone, long ruined, only the bell tower stands.
