Cesare Pavese was born here. His friend Pinolo Scaglione, whom everyone called Nuto, was a carpenter and ended up in his books: he is the subject of the poem I fumatori di carta and a character in La luna e i falò. His workshop is still standing.
From the top of the Moncucco, where the sanctuary of the Madonna della Neve stands, the signal goes out each year to light the bonfires across the hills. Below, beside the ruins of the castle and a medieval tower, the church of Santi Giacomo e Cristoforo, of 1300, abandoned in 1926, now houses the civic library and the foundation named after Pavese. Since 2019 the comune has taken in that of Camo.
