Cavaglio d'Agogna

Province: Novara · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,280 · Postal code: 28010

The name goes back to a document of 1029 that calls the place curtis Caballi Regis, the court where the arimanni raised the king's horses; that horse is still on the comune's arms, red, rearing and neighing on a silver field. The second half of the name, added in 1863, is the nearby Agogna stream.

The village church of San Mamante shows a Baroque front in two orders, with engaged columns and Corinthian capitals, stone saints in the niches and along the crowning; above the doorway a fresco sits in a scrolled frame, and a single statue closes the curved pediment at the top.
