The patron of Maggiora is Sant'Agapito, celebrated on 18 August.
A classic event of Maggiora's tradition is the Palio dei rioni, held in June for over twenty-five years: more than 200 extras in fifteenth-century period costumes take part, and the four districts of the village face each other in medieval-flavoured challenges such as the archery contest, the giostra del Palio and the barrel race, which decides the final victory.
