Miasino

Province: Novara · Region: Piedmont · Population: 887 · Postal code: 28010

In the Middle Ages Miasino belonged to the bishop's fief of the Riviera di San Giulio, named after the man who evangelised those lands in the late fourth century. The centre sits on level ground among the mountains, Pisogno on the slopes of Monte Formica beyond the Agogna, Carcegna dropping towards Lake Orta.

San Rocco, the parish church, was rebuilt in 1627 to a design by the Milanese Francesco Maria Richino, but the front stayed unfinished until 1933, when Carlo Nigra of Turin closed it to the original drawing. The saint of Montpellier was chosen for the plagues out of Milan; the baroque work inside was paid by villagers who had emigrated to Lucca and Milan.
