Orta San Giulio has two patrons: the Virgin of the Assumption, celebrated on 15 August, and Saint Julius, the saint who gives his name to the village and the island, on 31 January.
The basilica on the island in the middle of the lake is dedicated to Julius, and is considered the most important Romanesque monument in the Novara area. The church of the village, on the mainland, is dedicated to the Assumption.
