Bruzolo

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,545 · Postal code: 10050

Bruzolo's castle stands low on the slope and, with its wide walled enclosure, remains one of the largest surviving manors in the Susa Valley. There, on 25 April 1610, the envoys of Henry IV of France and Charles Emmanuel I of Savoy signed the treaty that carries the village's name.

The arms show an eagle and a lamb burning on straw: tradition ties that fire to the name of the place, a land parched by the sun, while others read the lamb as Bruzolo under its feudal yoke but unbeaten. The parish bell tower dates from the year 1000, older than the church, and higher up the village stands the forge, recorded as the oldest in Piedmont.
