San Didero lies in the Val di Susa, and its name comes from the Ecclesia Sancti Desiderii. The Mutatio ad Duodecimum, the posting station at the twelfth mile of the via Cozia, is thought to have stood here. San Desiderio dominates the village: one of the few churches in the valley to keep its medieval outline, single-naved, with plain cut-stone windows.
On the village slope stands the medieval casaforte, one of the few publicly owned in the lower valley; it sits at the centre of the coat of arms too, over a basket with grapes, chestnut burrs and two ears of wheat. The Via Francigena passes through, on its Mont Cenis branch.
