Mattie

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 707 · Postal code: 10050

Mattie is a village in the Val di Susa. Its parish church is dedicated to saints Cornelius and Cyprian: the building has been enlarged and reworked several times, while the bell tower stayed Romanesque. Just outside the village is the chapel of Santa Margherita, a very old building first recorded in a will of August 1250; there is also the medieval fortified house of Menolzio.

Beside a footpath lies the Pera Crevolà, a stone table covered with carvings: countless cup marks and, among them, various cross shapes. The slab surfaces in the wood, broad and almost flat, and the hollows can still be read on the grey stone.
