Meana di Susa, Méans in French, lies in the upper Susa valley, split into twenty-three hamlets. Its churches first appear in 1065, in the bull of bishop Cuniberto: one to San Costanzo, a martyr of the Theban legion, the other to Santa Maria. The village stayed attached to the saint: in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries it staged a two-day sacred play for him, with 118 characters.
Above the hamlets stands the Torre delle Combe, a stump of stone walling broken off at the top, military in look: it probably served not for defence but for signalling with bonfires. The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta is eighteenth-century but keeps an older Romanesque bell tower.
