Feast of Sant'Anastasia
📅 Every year, on the third Sunday of November
On the third Sunday of November Monastero di Lanzo, a municipality of 381 inhabitants in the province of Turin, celebrates its patroness Sant'Anastasia (Saint Anastasia).
The village takes its name from a small priory of Benedictine nuns, founded in 991 and dedicated to Saint Anastasia, under the abbey of San Mauro di Pulcherada. The Benedictines left the dry-stone terrace walls, the paths up to the summer pastures and the twelfth-century Romanesque bell tower of the parish church.
Those high pastures were long the main source of income, and quarrels over them with neighbouring villages turned more than once into real battles. In 1862 the village added 'di Lanzo' to its name, to avoid confusion with its namesakes. The coat of arms is quartered: the bell tower, a fir, a chestnut and a grazing cow.
