Pessinetto

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 607 · Postal code: 10070

Pessinetto lies in the Lanzo Valleys, on the left bank of the Stura. On the summit of Monte Bastia stands the sanctuary of Sant'Ignazio: work began in 1629 to record miracles ascribed to Saint Ignatius of Loyola, and the first stone is said to have been laid by princess Margherita of Savoy. Behind it rises Punta Serena, 1163 metres, with paths climbing from Chiaves and Tortore.

The parish church of San Giovanni Battista was built after a seventeenth century flood that carried away the earlier church and much of the village. From the opposite slope the sanctuary can be seen whole, the church and the long building alongside it on the crest.
