Reano

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,689 · Postal code: 10090

Reano lies in the Val Sangone, on the morainic ridge above the lower Susa valley. The old part gathers below the castle, begun in the thirteenth century over a Roman stronghold: outside it kept towers and battlements, inside it became a residence with baroque rooms. From 1566 to 1876 it belonged to the Dal Pozzo della Cisterna; today it is private.

The neo-Gothic parish church of San Giorgio Martire keeps canvases with Stories of the Virgin, painted in 1585 by the Florentine Lorenzo Vaiani, lo Sciorina, and brought from the Acciaiuoli villa at Pietrafitta, near San Gimignano. The chapel of the Madonna della Pietà stands at a crossroads: four columns, a pediment, a glazed lunette.
