The village lies at the foot of Monte Muretto, in the Val Noce near Pinerolo. Its earliest name seems to have been Ruvereturs, after the many oaks covering its land; the oaks are still there in the wood climbing to the Rocca Vautero above the plain. The name first appears in 1096 among the estates of the abbey of Santa Maria in Verano.
The council was abolished in 1928 and Roletto absorbed into Frossasco; it became a municipality again only in 1954. In the old centre the parish church of the Madonna del Carmelo, at the Colletto, keeps fifteenth-century frescoes.
