Feast of Saint Edward the Confessor
📅 Every year, on 13 October
On 13 October Sestriere celebrates its patron Saint Edward the Confessor; the municipal territory includes the Parco Naturale della Val Troncea.
The name comes from Petra Sextreria, the sixth stone measuring the miles from Turin. Sestriere sits on the pass between Val Chisone and Val di Susa, under Monte Fraiteve and Monte Sises, and with its town hall at 2035 metres it is Italy's highest comune.
The comune was created by royal decree in 1934, joining the old comune of Champlas du Col, now a hamlet, with the Borgata detached from Pragelato. Four years earlier Giovanni Agnelli had bought the land at forty cents a square metre and commissioned the two tower hotels from Vittorio Bonadè Bottino. Its arms carry a pair of skis between a black band and a green one.
