The patroness of Susa is Our Lady of the Snows, celebrated on 5 August.
This Alpine town is a stack of eras: from Roman times remain Porta Savoia, the Arch of Augustus, the arena and the walls; from the Middle Ages the castle of Countess Adelaide, the arcaded houses and three religious complexes quite different from one another — the cathedral of San Giusto, once a Benedictine abbey, the baptismal pieve of Santa Maria Maggiore and San Francesco, the first Franciscan convent in Piedmont. In summer the town's six boroughs compete in the historic tournament of the boroughs, which everyone calls the Palio di Susa.
