Valchiusa

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,106 · Postal code: 10089

Valchiusa was born on the first of January 2019 from the merger of Meugliano, Trausella and Vico Canavese, which houses the town hall; the settlement is scattered. The name is not new: between 1929 and 1935 a Valchiusa had already existed, taking in Brosso as well.

At Vico the parish church of San Giovanni Battista probably dates from the twelfth century; the stone bell tower beside the apse is severely Romanesque, with three tiers of wide mullioned windows, raised in the seventeenth century. Diorite quarries open on the ridge above, and that stone built part of the colonnade of via Roma in Turin.
