Saint George, patron of the land of Monte Fenera
📅 Every year, on 23 April
Valduggia celebrates Saint George on 23 April.
The name comes from the oldest part of the village, called Uggia; and that, in turn, is said to come from the uggia and thick winter fog of the valley. Under a similar name, Ucciae saltus et praedia, the territory already appears in Trajan's alimentary tables of 108, among the lands of the pagus Vercellensis.
Valduggia headed the Lower Court of the Valsesia and had its own statutes, confirmed by Gian Galeazzo Visconti in 1387 and in force until 1770, when the Savoyard constitutions arrived. Bells were once cast here; today it makes hydraulic equipment. The parish church of San Giorgio holds a Nativity attributed to Gaudenzio Ferrari, born in Valduggia.
