Serravalle Sesia

Province: Vercelli · Region: Piedmont · Population: 5,141 · Postal code: 13037

Naula, today a small hamlet, was a Roman settlement and is named in an imperial diploma to the bishop of Vercelli of 999; the free borough of Serravalle was founded in 1255. Of old Naula the parish church of Santa Maria remains, a good piece of Romanesque architecture.

The comune of today is the result of a merger: in 1927 Bornate, Piane Sesia and Vintebbio were joined to it, until then separate comuni, and Piane for its part had already changed name twice. Serravalle too was called only that, without the river, until the nineteenth century.
