At Bari's gates, Modugno keeps one of Puglia's most evocative medieval sites: Balsignano, the fortified hamlet documented from the tenth century, with the church of San Felice and its Byzantine-flavoured frescoes, returned to visitors after long restoration. The old centre, medieval in plan, turns around the mother church of the Annunziata and its noble palaces.
The town is now part of Bari's productive heart, with one of the South's busiest industrial zones. The olive tree remains in the landscape and in the countryside's oil: Bari is ten minutes away, the Murgia begins behind the last warehouse.
