The patron saints of Galatina are Saint Peter and Saint Paul, celebrated on 29 June in the church dedicated to them. The town's co-patron is Santa Maria della Luce, celebrated on the fourth Thursday after Easter.
During the 29 June celebrations, the small church dedicated to the saint was once visited by women known as «tarantate», victims of the tarantula's bite, who sought the saint's grace by praying and drinking water from the well. The town also hosts the Galatina National Fair, which since 1984 has had its own permanent exhibition area, heir to the ancient Saint Catherine cattle fair, held around 25 November since the weekly Thursday market was established in Largo Fontana, today's Piazza Alighieri.
