The patron saints of Castellaneta are Saint Nicholas of Bari, patron of the town, and Saint Francis of Paola, co-patron: the patronal feast is celebrated jointly on the second Sunday of May, while Saint Nicholas also has his own liturgical feast on 6 December.
The town was the birthplace of Rudolph Valentino, to whom a monument is dedicated in Piazza Umberto. The municipal territory also holds the Cathedral of Castellaneta and the Church of San Domenico, as well as the Church of San Francesco e Chiara.
