Boroneddu

Province: Oristano · Region: Sardinia · Population: 165 · Postal code: 09080

Boroneddu lies in the Guilcer, the historical region in the middle of Sardinia, and its territory was already settled in nuragic times. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the curatoria of Guilcer, inside the giudicato of Arborea, whose seat was first Abbasanta and then Sedilo. Here too, as in neighbouring Tadasuni, people speak the limba de mesania, the middle variety of Sardinian.

In 1537 Boroneddu was sold together with Tadasuni, Sedilo and Zuri: four villages in a single lot, handed over to the Torresani by a nephew of the Aragonese feudatory. In 1566 the four became a county, raised to a marquisate in 1737 for a canon, and the buy-back came in 1839. In the twentieth century the village stopped being a municipality for thirty years: from 1927 it was attached to Ghilarza, and it regained its autonomy only in 1958.
