Busachi is built on a slope: between the upper and the lower part of the village there are nearly eighty metres of difference in height. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the giudicato of Arborea and was the chief town of the curatoria of Barigadu after Fordongianus. In the same curatoria, and in this territory, stood another village, Moddaminis, destroyed in the Aragonese period: of that place there remains the Gothic church of Santa Susanna, consecrated in 1349, which still stands out in the fields and still has its feast, on the eleventh of August, in the novenary that grew up around it. When the giudicato fell, in 1420, Busachi passed to the marquisate of Oristano, and after the final defeat of the Arborensi, in 1478, it became a fief under the Aragonese. In 1790 the village was made a marquisate and granted to a woman, Donna Teresa Deliperi; it was redeemed from its last lords in 1839.

The village has a museum of its costume and of the linen tradition, linen being the cloth made here. The year turns on four feasts and on Easter. On the sixteenth of January, for Sant'Antonio abate, they light the tuvas, as the villages around here do; the twentieth of May is San Bernardino, the thirteenth of June the patron Sant'Antonio da Padova, the eleventh of August Santa Susanna in her country church. At Easter they keep s'iscravamentu, the taking down of Christ from the cross, a rite that came here from Catalonia. And the Sardinian spoken in Busachi belongs to what they call the limba de mesania, the middle tongue: the speech of the band where the north of the island meets the south.
