Sorradile

Province: Oristano · Region: Sardinia · Population: 417 · Postal code: 09080

Sorradile stands in the Barigadu at 350 metres above sea level, and its territory is a collection of nuraghi: Candala, Iscòva, Pajolu, Funtana Mura and Urasala, which still holds ten courses of stone in place. At the nuragic sanctuary of Su Monti there is a sacred basin carved in the shape of a nuraghe, a nuraghe in miniature inside a place of worship: the one on site is a copy, the original is kept in a museum. And there is the Furru de sa Teula, a nuraghe turned in recent times into a kiln for firing roof tiles.

The village is first recorded under Aragonese rule, in the fifteenth century, when it was made a fief; until 1773 it followed the fortunes of Neoneli, then it entered the marquisate of San Vittorio, granted to the Todde together with Bidonì and Nughedu Santa Vittoria, and in 1839 it was redeemed from the Pes as the feudal system ended. Besides the parish church, several country churches remain — San Nicola di Nurozo, Santa Maria de Turrana, San Giovanni del Bosco — along with the Prunittu necropolis and the domus de janas of Santu Cristos.
