Feast of Saint Peter
📅 Every year, on 29 June
On 29 June Neoneli, a municipality of 713 inhabitants in the province of Oristano, celebrates its patron Saint Peter.
On the arms there are an N, ears of wheat, a lion and a golden hourglass. The lion stands for the old local stories, which made Neoneli a land of lions, that is of brave men; the hourglass was instead the badge of the Sanjust, the last marquesses of the village.
The fief belonged to the De Jana until 1462, then to the Da Silva, counts of Montesanto; in 1774 it became a marquisate for Pietro Ripoll, and in 1837 it went to the Sanjust with the marriage of Maria Angela Ripoll — two years before the village bought itself free, in 1839. For some time now the October sagra of fregula and cassola has also become a literary festival, Licanias.
