Flussio

Province: Oristano · Region: Sardinia · Population: 454 · Postal code: 09090

Flussio and Tinnura are two municipalities but a single village: the houses touch without a break and the main street, which is state road 292, is the same for both. The craft here is weaving: baskets are made from asphodel, the plant that grows wild in Sardinian fields.

In the Middle Ages Flussio lay in the curatoria of Planargia, inside the giudicato of Torres; when the giudicato fell in 1259 it belonged to the Malaspina, from 1308 to the giudicato of Arborea, and from 1420 to the Aragonese, who made it a fief of the Villamarina. In the eighteenth century it entered, together with Suni, the marquisate of Planargia held by the Paliaccio, and in 1839 it bought itself out as feudalism ended. The latest change is very recent: in 2003, with the reform of the Sardinian provinces, Flussio passed from Nuoro to Oristano.
