Tresnuraghes

The name says three nuraghi, and they stood exactly where the village is today: two have vanished altogether, of the third only a few traces remain. In the rest of the territory the nuraghi are still there — Martine, Nani, Tepporo — but in poor condition, and along with them are giants' tombs, dolmens and the domus de janas that here are called Sos Furrighèsos. Tresnuraghes, in short, is a village of the Planargia that carries the count of three monuments no longer to be seen. The sea has left its mark too: the roadstead of Foghe, at the mouth of the Riu Mannu, has always been a convenient landing place for those who arrived from the sea uninvited, and for that reason the Aragonese put a watchtower there, together with those of Ischia Ruja and Columbargia.

On the road that leads to the hill of San Marco, instead, there is a dolmen and a stone triptych they call Su Ju Malmuradu, «the petrified yoke»: the legend says that a farmer did not stop working while the procession of Saint Mark went by, and for this he was turned to stone along with his yoke. The feast of Saint Mark has remained the most important of the year, and it works the opposite way to that punishment: the shepherd families offer sheep and have them cooked, others bring bread, and hundreds of people — from the village and from outside — eat and drink together to satiety. The official patron, however, is Saint George, and it is for him that the coat of arms bears a dragon pierced by a sword.
