Tinnura

Province: Oristano · Region: Sardinia · Population: 268 · Postal code: 09090

The name Tinnura comes from a pre-Roman root meaning the spiny rush, and that rush never went away: together with asphodel it is still the material woven into the village's craftwork. Murals cover the houses, and the built-up area runs without a break into that of Flussio, with which it shares the main road: two villages that from the outside look like one.

In the Middle Ages it belonged to the giudicato of Torres; when that fell in 1259 it passed to the Malaspina, in 1308 to the giudicato of Arborea, then to the Aragonese from 1420. Even as a fief it stayed tied to Flussio: the two villages ended up together in the marquisate of Planargia, bought back in 1839. In 2003 Tinnura changed province, from Nuoro to Oristano, and its station on the line to Bosa has served only the summer Trenino Verde since 1997.
