Sagama lies in a closed valley, the Badde 'e Sagama, on a limestone step where the Muristene nuraghe stands; all around, on the heights, five more form a crown watching over the hollow. Of the ancient village there remain stretches of defensive walls, Punic, Roman and medieval, still visible on the south and north sides of the built-up area.
On 9 January 1388 Sagama's representatives signed, in the church of San Giovanni Battista at Magomadas, the peace between the kingdom of Arborea and that of Aragon: the Parchment of Eleonora. When the enclosure edict arrived, in 1820, churchmen took the land of the valley for themselves, but up on the plateau the division was stopped by the shepherds' resistance. In 1928 the municipality was abolished and merged into Suni along with Tinnura and Flussio; it became a municipality again in 1946.
