In the eighties the town filled up with art: the Italian-Argentine artist Silvio Benedetto scattered monoliths and frescoes through the streets, going as far as to build a park dedicated to the Divine Comedy, and painted the town hall's façade with scenes of peasant life.
Before that Campobello was a foundation town like many in Sicily: in 1681 baron Raimondo Ramondetta bought the licence to settle it from Charles II of Spain for two hundred onze and began gathering houses and farmers. At the first census, in 1710, there were two hundred and twelve inhabitants and a hundred and thirteen houses; today there are 10,438, on a plateau in the Salso valley.

Campobello di Licata celebrates Saint John the Baptist on 24 June; the church dedicated to him, also called the sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Aiuto, was commissioned by baron Raimondo Raimondetta San Martino and completed in 1681, becoming the town's mother church.
