Montevago celebrates Saint Dominic on 8 August; on the night between 14 and 15 January 1968 the Belice earthquake destroyed the town's mother church, an event also told by journalist Sergio Zavoli in a television investigation.

The patron saint of Montevago is Saint Dominic, celebrated on 8 August. Also deeply felt is the feast of the Madonna delle Grazie, on 2 July, in front of the sanctuary dedicated to her, seat of the friars' convent.

On the night between 14 and 15 January 1968, the municipal territory was devastated by the Belice earthquake, which destroyed, among other things, the town's mother church: journalist Sergio Zavoli dedicated a television investigation, titled «Il vicebrigadiere di Montevago», to the devastation caused by the quake. According to some historians, the plain on which the town stands may also have hosted the camp of the Greek general Timoleon before a battle against the Punic army led by Hamilcar and Hasdrubal, recounted by Plutarch and Diodorus: from the district of Saccafena, on a rise called «coddu di lu Grecu» (the Greek's hill), the whole Belice valley can indeed be overlooked.
