In 1862, Militello officially dropped "Val di Noto" from its name to align with the Catania province, yet its architectural loyalty remains firmly rooted in the southeastern baroque tradition. This consistency earned the town a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2002, alongside seven other rebuilt Sicilian municipalities.
Resting on the lower slopes of the Hyblaean Mountains, the settlement is home to just over 7,800 residents and connects to the regional railway line toward Gela. Crowned the 2025 winner of Italy's most beautiful villages network, it rewards those who step off the train to walk among its heavily ornamented facades.
