The patron saint of Santa Maria di Licodia is Saint Joseph, whose liturgical date falls on 19 March, but whose patronal celebrations are held on the last Sunday of August: in 1878 a cardinal returned to the town to fulfil the requests of the local townspeople and grant this summer placement of the feast. The co-patroness, instead, is the Virgin of Mount Carmel, solemnly celebrated on 16 and 17 July, while every 15 August the area's summer visitors solemnly celebrate the Assumption of Mary.
The town preserves several historic churches, including that of the Souls of Purgatory and that of the Resurrection, built in 1893 together with the new cemetery, as well as the church of the Most Holy Crucifix and that of Santa Maria del Carmine.
