Librizzi took shape in the 12th century around the walls of Brichinnai Castle, where a medieval community first settled. That early stronghold provided the anchor for the town that today counts 1,771 residents in the Metropolitan City of Messina.
The municipality sits on a hill flanked by the Timeto and Librizzi streams, located 50 kilometres west of Messina and 140 kilometres east of Palermo.
